Sustainable Transit with Solar Power

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is transforming the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) with its ambitious solar energy initiatives. Currently, NCRTC generates a peak of 2.21 Megawatts (MWp) of solar energy and NCRTC's efforts reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2,300 tons annually. Solar power plants installed at various stations including Guldhar, Sahibabad and Duhai Depot are significantly contributing to this green transition. With a target of 11 MW of solar capacity, the initiative aims to further reduce CO2 emissions by 11,500 tonnes annually. This aligns with the objectives of the National Solar Mission and improves sustainability and operational efficiency across the network. Solar-equipped stations such as Guldhar and Sahibabad are expected to generate significant electricity annually, positioning them as 'carbon negative'. due to their efficient energy consumption. NCRTC's commitment to sustainable transportation not only promotes the use of public transportation, but also improves urban livability by reducing environmental impact. It is planned that the ongoing construction works and future extensions will be completed by June 2025, ensuring a robust and environmentally friendly transport solution for the region. Through these initiatives, NCRTC is setting a new standard for eco-friendly public transportation, contributing significantly to sustainable urban development.
