Karnataka has unveiled new guidelines to expedite rooftop solar installations, with an aim to boost the state's solar capacity. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) will act as a hub and ensure a streamlined and efficient process. This initiative involves implementation of a unified online application submission, processing and monitoring platform, which will be operational across all Electricity Suppliers (ESCOMs) in the state.
A key feature of these guidelines is the introduction of a penalty system to address delays in the synchronization of rooftop solar systems with the electricity grid. This measure is expected to lead to faster approvals and connections, reducing the wait time for consumers looking to adopt solar energy.
The guidelines also include daily updates on the status of applications, increasing transparency and customer satisfaction. Standardized procedures for all ESCOMs will further simplify the process for both consumers and service providers, promoting consistency and efficiency.
As of December 2023, Karnataka's rooftop solar capacity stood at 526 MW. With these new guidelines, the state aims to significantly increase this figure, contribute to the overall renewable energy goals and promote sustainable energy solutions.
By addressing key bottlenecks and ensuring a more user-friendly approach, Karnataka's new guidelines represent a crucial step towards greater adoption of rooftop solar systems. This initiative not only supports the state's green energy goals, but also allows consumers to actively participate in the renewable energy movement.
