Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) has issued a tender for the establishment of 114 MW ground-based solar projects in three districts in Madhya Pradesh. The initiative, in partnership with Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company (MPPGCL), aims to integrate solar energy into existing thermal project sites.
The tender, with a deadline for submission of September 22, 2023, has significant potential for transforming Madhya Pradesh's energy landscape. The allocated solar capacities for the respective thermal power plants are: Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station in Birsinghpur (31.6 MW), Amarkantak Thermal Power Station in Chachai (38.6 MW) and Shree Singaji Thermal Power Station in Khandwa (43.8 MW). Together, these projects will contribute to a total capacity of 114 MW, advancing the state's renewable energy goals.
The transition to solar power at these thermal sites is linked to the existing Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between MPPGCL and Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company. Excess solar energy can be introduced into the exchange market as part of the flexibility programme in case of insufficient replacement of thermal energy.
MPPGCL facilitates the necessary land for project development, a crucial step in expanding sustainable energy infrastructure. Bidders must submit a bid security of ₹800,000 (~$9,643) per MW of specified capacity.
This initiative follows RUMSL's recent auction successes for a 300MW floating solar farm in Madhya Pradesh's Omkareshwar reservoir in Phase II, demonstrating the state's commitment to expanding renewable energy businesses.
