Gujarat has taken charge of Tamil Nadu to become the top state in the country's installed wind power capacity. While Tamil Nadu, which was in the numero uno position in the renewable energy segment for about four decades, has a cumulative installed wind power capacity of more than 10,100 MW, Gujarat recently rose to the first rank with an installed capacity of 10,415 MW.
The western state is likely to record steady growth in wind power in the coming months. But Tamil Nadu could bounce back if major policy interventions are made, according to experts.
The development comes at a time when India will add 58 GW of wind power capacity over the next seven years at an investment of more than 4 lakh crore. This would bring the cumulative installed capacity of onshore wind power to 100 GW, from the current 42.8 GW spread across nine states.
