Initiated by the Chandigarh Road Safety Society (CRSS), the Chandigarh Centre of Excellence in Road Security (CCERS) was formally opened in the punjab engineering college (PEC) building in sector 12. The center was officially opened by Chandigarh Advisor Dharam Pal in the presence of other Executives.
According to officials, this center will mainly help in the identification and elimination of black spots, conduct traffic simulation studies for traffic management and congestion lighting, assist with accident investigation and analysis, and perform data analysis and policy evaluations to communication strategies.
According to instructions from a Supreme Court Road Safety Commission, this center will serve as the leading organisation in the field of road safety. It is interesting that the recently inaugurated Centre or Excellence in Road Safety did not have a ramp to accommodate people with disabilities. The lack of a driveway in the middle was brought forward by wheelchair-bound road safety specialist Harman Sidhu, just after it was opened.
"There was no driveway allowing a wheelchair or a physically disabled person to building. Two of my colleagues had to help me gain access to the building. It is a new building, which must be built with the needs of disabled people in mind, which is a must according to the guidelines of the Indian government. I made my point in the presence of Chandigarh Chief Engineer, OP Ojha," Harman Sidhu stated.
