The country will soon have an advanced, intelligent power transmission system with features such as automated networking and real-time monitoring.
In addition, there will be better situational evaluation, the possibility to increase the share of renewable capacity in the power mix, better utilisation of transmission capacity and greater resilience to cyberattacks and natural disasters.
This task force, led by POWERGRID, was established by the Ministry of Energy in September 2021 to make recommendations for methods to modernize the transmission industry and make it smart and future-proof.
Following discussions last week led by Energy and Renewable Energy Minister R.K. Singh, the cabinet approved the commission's report.
The panel also recommended centralized, data-driven decision-making and self-correcting systems to reduce forced outages.
In the meantime, Singh stressed that a modern transportation grid is essential to achieving the government's vision of providing people with reliable, affordable power 24 hours a day, seven days a week while achieving sustainability goals during discussions of the task force's recommendations.
