The tunnel boring machine (TBM) named Bhadra, for Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line, surfaced Friday at Shadi Mahal near Tannery Road after tunneling 1066 meters. The machine was set up in Venkateshpura metro station in June 2021 to tunnel up to KG Halli metro station.
According to the Bangalore Mero Rail Corporation Ltd, the machine completed the tunnel after 540 days. Thanks to the machine, Tannery Road Station now has a temporary tunnel of 192 meters to drive through.
The BMRCL is building a 14 km tunnel network from Dairy Circle to Nagawara as part of Phase II. The contractors of the Namma Metro project have operated nine tunnel boring machines. The line from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara (pink line) includes the tunnel system.
At Nagawara, this line will be integrated with the ORR airport line. The Pink Line will probably be operational in 2024.
