Adani to invest $1.2 bn for Lucknow Airport expansion

Lucknow :

To increase the annual passenger handling capacity of Lucknow Airport from 4 million passengers per annum (MPPA) to 39 MPPA, the Adani group will invest 107,000 million in the expansion of the airport. The Union Ministry of the Environment approved the airport's expansion plan on December 15. However, the deadline for the extension was not mentioned in the plan submitted to the government. The scheme and approval have been reviewed by Business Standard.

Earlier reports indicated that the Adani company would triple the passenger handling capacity of Ahmedabad airport between 2023 and 2027 to transform it into a regional hub.

Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow has a total area of 509.41 hectares (1258.80 acres), making it one of the most land-bound airports in India, according to the plan of Lucknow International Airport Limited (LIAL), a company which is owned by the Adani group.

LIAL has since proposed expanding CCSIA over an area of 457.1 hectares.

The International Terminal (T1) and the Domestic Terminal are the two passenger terminals currently operated by CCSIA (T2). A new integrated terminal building (T3) is being built west of Terminal T1, the statement said.

The plan stated that a new terminal building (T4) with associated infrastructure, support facilities and utilities will be built adjacent to T3 to support 39 MPPA. According to a presentation by the Adani Group in October, CCSIA can currently handle 4 MPPA.

According to the LIAL concept, a cargo complex with a total size of 23.14 hectares will be built at CCSIA to be able to transport cargo up to 0.25 million tons per year. The Airports Authority of India lost ownership of CCSIA to Adani group in November 2020. (AA).

In response to the newspaper's request for comment, the Adani group did not provide any. A multi-modal transport hub will also be built, it was announced, with airport perimeter amenities for travelers arriving at the airport from nearby areas, subway connections, multi-level parking, city check-in and self-baggage facilities. give, and more.

LIAL has proposed a multi-level parking garage with 4,000 parking spaces, it was observed. It was noted that pedestrian walkways were intended to connect those areas to the departure and arrival areas of the terminal, allowing passengers and greeters to park in multi-story parking garages and proceed to the pick-up/drop-off curbs.

39 MPPA would require about 9.6 million gallons of water per day (MLD), the report said. The government of Uttar Pradesh or wells will provide 4.5 MLD while the sewage treatment plant will provide the remaining 5.1 MLD for flushing and landscaping.

The Adani Group has gradually expanded its involvement in the aviation industry in recent years. In February 2019, through a competitive bidding process, the AAI leased airports in Lucknow, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad and Guwahati. Through vigorous bidding, the Adani group succeeded in obtaining the 50-year operating licenses for all six.

It bought Air Works, the second oldest aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in India, in October this year for a price tag of 4000 million.
