Pune Metro Line 3, connecting the IT hub of Hinjewadi to the central hub of Shivajinagar, will be operational by March 2025. Tata Projects will be working on the entire 23km stretch simultaneously, rather than working on it in phases, officials said. Tata Projects Pune Metro Head Alok Kapoor said: "The work will be completed in 40 months. We have already started work on the ground and most of the land is in our possession. We are planning the project in March to be completed in 2025.”
He added: “We plan to start work on the entire 23km stretch rather than partially operating the metro. We use coaches made in India.”
Another Tata Projects official said: “Work has started on the side of Hinjewadi and near Balewadi sports stadium. The most critical area for doing work is at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) chowk, given the heavy traffic. We have agreed with the local authorities to build an integrated double-deck viaduct. We have approval and the traffic diversion plan is also ready.”
Officials said the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) and Tata Projects metro lines are integrated and support each other. The mobility card for both metros would be the same. The government is thinking of launching a metro map that would be common in all cities.
