The railways have glimpsed the Noney Bridge - the highest pier-rail bridge in the world - which is part of the 111 km railway project between Jiribim and Imphal in Manipur.
The bridge under construction is 141 m high and 703 m long. When completed, it will drastically reduce travel time from 10-12 hours to 2.5 hours. According to the railroads, 75 percent of the work on the bridge has been completed, while nearly 89.20 percent of the work on the overall project has been completed.
The Jiribhim-Imphal Line has 52 tunnels, 48 of which have been completed. Of the 11 major bridges, the substructure of seven and the superstructure of five have been completed. Of the 129 small bridges, 101 have been completed. Also, 6 of the 11 train stations have been completed.
The Jiribam-Imphal New Railway Line project will bring increased tourism and economic prosperity throughout Northeast India.
