On Tuesday, another nine people succumbed to COVID-19 in Punjab, while 4,593 new cases pushed the number of infections to 6,29,899, a medical bulletin said.
The number of active cases rose from 19,379 to 23,235 on Monday. The positivity rate was 18.64 percent.
Two fatalities were reported each in Gurdaspur and Patiala and one in Bathinda, Ludhiana, Moga, Mohali and Pathankot, bringing the toll to 16,692 according to the bulletin.
Of the new cases, Patiala reported 909 infections, followed by 703 in Mohali, 678 in Ludhiana, 455 in Amritsar and 330 in Jalandhar.
A total of 338 patients will receive oxygen support, while 13 critical patients will receive ventilator support, according to the bulletin.
In total, 687 more people have recovered from the infection, bringing the number of recoveries to 5,89,972, the report said.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Chandigarh reported 801 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the number to 70,189.
With the deaths of two more people, the toll in the city reached 1,083.
The number of active cases in the city was 3,924 while the number of recoveries was 65,182.
