The city-based doctor, who had tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and reportedly recovered, has again tested positive for the virus.
The doctor was one of the first two individuals detected in the country with Omicron. The other was a South African national, who was quarantined and later flew to Dubai. "It is true that the doctor infected with the Omicron variant has again tested positive for COVID-19," an official from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike told PTI. The official asked for anonymity and said the doctor is in isolation, but he is asymptomatic. Meanwhile, police have filed a case against the SA national, who is of Gujarati origin, for flying without informing authorities in violation of quarantine standards. The management and staff of a five-star hotel here have also been booked to let the infected person leave without informing health officials. They have been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, 2020, police sources said.
